Subject: Calendar problem finally solved
Feedback Type: Problem
Product Area: Notes 8 Client
Technical Area: Functionality
Platform: Windows Vista client
Release: 8.0.1
Reproducible: Always

Forever now I've been plagued by a couple of calendaring problems that, yesterday, I finally solved. Mostly I've lived with these problems. (Being the Domino admin, my own problems mostly have low priority.) But from time to time I've been irritated enough by them to try to solve them. But my research (Google, Notes forum, and Technote searches) has never turned up my precise set of symptoms or a solution that applied to me. Therefore, I thought I'd share my problem and solution here, in case anyone else has the same problem.

My symptoms were these:
1. Other users could never see my free time. All they would see for me was "No Info".
2. When I would try to schedule an appointment or meeting, Notes would always return this error message:
"An error occurred while searching for free time. We are not able to perform conflict checking for you at this time. The meeting will be created and placed on your calendar. Continue?"
3. "Tell Sched Validate" for me would always return the message that my calendar was in a different domain: "Error processing calendar profile document (NoteID: NT00000902) in database mail\xxxxx.nsf: User's calendar is not in this domain"

The cause of these symptoms was this: In my Person document, on the Miscellaneous tab, a domain name appeared in the "Calendar domain" field. I might never have noticed this, except for the fact that the domain listed there was an old Notes domain that we had, a couple years ago, merged into our current Notes domain.

To fix the problem, I first tried changing the domain listed in that field to the current Notes domain. The change appeared to have no effect, even after restarting the Schedule Manager and RnR Manager. Then I noticed that nobody else's Person document had any domain at all listed in this field. So I blanked the field, and that finally solved the problem.

It's nice to have a fully functional Notes calendar again. I hope this explanation helps someone else to get past this problem much more quickly than I did.
